NAI National Scholarship

The word is out! The 2009 NAI student scholarships are available for download. There are four undergraduate scholarships awarded each year, which include $750 academic scholarship, and an expense-paid trip to the national workshop (in Connecticut this fall) to accept the award.

You must complete an application, get several references, and write an essay in order to go after this. We have had several Hocking students win in the past, and I'm sure we are up for the challenge of getting a few more.

For more information, go to:

Deadline for application is April 15, so get moving!!

Duct Tape Dreams

Thanks to everyone who helped out with our club fundraiser last week. We built over 130 duct tape roses and sold them in the cafeteria and around campus. You can tell the flower builders by a lack of skin on several fingers, and the mad desire to tear tape!

This will have to become an annual event, and we can charge a LOT more money for each flower next year. Who knows, we may be able to fund an Hawaiian interpretive trip!!

Happy Darwin/Lincoln Day!

Tomorrow is the 200th birthday of two pretty significant figures- Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin.
A special Darwin Day lecture will take place at Ohio University at noon tomorrow, and Athens County Historical Society is offering several events later this month pertaining to Lincoln, Freedom, and Black History Month. (see calendar link below for more information.)

Valentines Day Fundraiser

At our Interp. Club meeting last night, we decided to attempt a Valentine's Day sale of duct-tape roses and cookies. Next Wednesday's meeting will be spent making the flowers, and we need volunteers to sign up and sell them on Thursday and Friday, either in the NR building or the dining hall.

Please let Ken know if you can staff a table for a few hours either day, bake cookies or brownies to sell, and come to the meeting next week (Wednesday, 5pm) to help us create the flowers.
